The Polysomnographic Technologist must meet the following qualifications:

Education: Minimum requirements are one of- Completion of 2 year CAAHEP, CARC or AASM or BRPT approved Polysomnography Education program or Respiratory Care program (required); 2 year CAAHEP program in Polysomnography (preferred)
Licensure/Certification: Certification from Medical Board of California, RPSGT from BRPT, or RRT, American Heart Association BLS (required)
Experience: 2 year experience in associated medical field such as RCP with 2 years training in sleep disorders. Must be able to score Polysomnograms independently. Must be able to perform MSLT studies as assigned. Must be proficient in all modalities of interventions including Oxygen use, PAP devices use and education (required)

The Polysomnographic Technologist's responsibilities include:

Demonstrating compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and taking action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.

Performing Polysomnographic Testing according to policy and procedure.

Performing appropriate therapeutic and diagnostic use of Oxygen.

Providing appropriate use of Positive airway pressure including CPAP, Bi-level modalities, adaptive servo-ventilation, and maintenance of nasal and oral airways that do not extend into the trachea.

Performing accurate staging and analysis and scoring including writing and generating a complete report of sleep disorder studies.

Complying information, interviews, instructs and educates patients and families about sleep disorder studies.

Serving as a resource person for medical staff, public, patients and families. Performs CPAP management training to increase patient compliance as assigned.

Participating in activities, which results in professional and department growth.

Providing direct supervision to Technicians and Trainees during sleep diagnostic and related activities.

Able to appropriately prepare, the patient, the patient’s room and equipment for the sleep disorder study.

Documenting accurate and pertinent information on technical notes at the time study. Able to document and process procedures on a daily basis in the department records.

Processing billing charges or credits as assigned.

Demonstrating the care and operation of equipment used in the Sleep Disorders Center according to technical specifications and application of equipment.

Maintaining clean, well-stocked equipment with supplies and "in good working order "after each shift.

Participating in Sleep Disorder Center utilization review, performance improvement and quality assessment programs. Assists manager with development of policy and procedures as assigned.

Assisting with photocopying, filing, charting of reports in-patients medical record.

Reporting any unsafe or mal-functioning equipment to the Sleep Disorders Center -Manager and takes the necessary step in processing reported equipment.

Ability to organize the workload and set priorities to meet time requirements.

Cultivating positive interpersonal relations with physicians, coworkers and other staff members.

Demonstrating adaptability to working overtime and/or altering work schedule when necessary to provide patient care.

Being self-sufficient in seeking resource; may having specialized skills; demonstrating significant problem solving skills with sleep Disorder Center modalities in the clinical setting. Ability to oversee non-registered technicians, assisting with training and development of non-registered staff.

Complying with policies; uses discretion and follows through with areas of concern.

Adhering to hospital infection control guidelines, body mechanics and safety, equipment usage and care.

Maintaining a high productivity level.

Completing tasks in allotted time at the end of each shift.

Performing other duties as requested.
